Overview
Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime trekking adventure through the Ngorongoro Highlands, where breathtaking volcanic landscapes meet authentic cultural encounters. This 4-day trek takes you from the lush forests and flamingo-filled lakes of Empakaai Crater, through remote Maasai villages and acacia woodlands, all the way to the dramatic salt flats of Lake Natron. Along the way, encounter buffalo, diverse birdlife, flamingos, and sweeping escarpments – with donkeys carrying your supplies.
For the truly adventurous, an optional midnight climb of Oldonyo Lengai, the sacred active volcano of the Maasai, rewards you with a spectacular sunrise over the Great Rift Valley.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha – Empakaai Crater
Morning transfer from Arusha to Empakaai Crater. Trek along the rim before descending into the crater to explore Empakaai Lake, home to flamingos and water birds. Overnight at Empakaai Special Campsite.
Day 2: Empakaai – Nayobi Village (Acacia Camp)
Begin trekking with donkeys carrying supplies. Pass through Maasai villages and enjoy cultural interactions. Overnight at Acacia campsite near Nayobi Village.
Day 3: Nayobi – Lake Natron
Morning trek towards Lake Natron. Explore flamingo colonies, Rift Wall, and waterfalls. Optional midnight climb of Oldonyo Lengai. Overnight at Maasai Giraffe Campsite.
Day 4: Lake Natron – Arusha
Morning at leisure. After brunch, drive back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport for departure.
